Our old farm house...
Some farm houses in our hamlet were painted at the end of the 40's.
You can see, on the right, behind the pile of wood, the little house-shaped bread oven with its little door. These oven haven't any cheminey and this door was left open to evacute the fumes during the fire and the warming. The color of the bricks inside (going to "cherry-red") or the speed of drying of a wet "chiffon" put on the slate just over the door tells the temperature...
This kind of house is called here a "longère" and you can see, from front to back, the "écurie à cheval", the oldest part of the house transformed in a stable, two living module and the place for the pigs. Detached from the house, there is behind a "préau"...
On the left, there are two big heaps, one of hay, and one of "paille". You can tell which one it is, by the chestnut tree pole put inside one of the pile
to have it standing up right, but I do not remember which one is supposed to have this pole...
Just before the first pile, there are "fougères" cut and lying on the ground. They will be used as a "litière".
When this picture was painted, number of trees in the forest in front of the house were cut. That's why we can't see any there.
